Sofia Agelaki graduated from the Medical School at the University of Crete in 1990. She was trained as a resident in Internal Medicine at the University Hospital of Heraklion. From 1997 – 2006 she served as a consultant in Medical Oncology in the Department of Medical – Oncology, University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete. At 2003 she completed her PhD thesis at the Laboratory of Clinical Chemistry, at the University of Crete, Medical School, and at 2004 she was trained as a post-doctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Thoracic and Head and Neck Medical Oncology, at The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. From 2006- 2012 served as a Lecturer and at 2012 till now she serves as an Assistant Professor in Medical Oncology at the University of Crete, Medical School. She is actively involved in the clinical research program in Lung and Head and Neck Cancer of the Hellenic Oncology Research Group. Her main research interests focus on the analysis of signal transduction pathways in cancer and the phenotypic analysis of circulating tumor cells. She has participated in a number of postgraduate continuing education events (seminars, conferences, workshops) both as a trainee and as a trainer and has co-authored more than 96 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
